Cancelling a class as a teacher

Cancel a booked class from My sessions on the My availability page, with Cancel session: otocourses.app/en/app/teach/availability. You must give a reason, which is kept on record. A class can be cancelled only before it starts.

What happens for the student

• 8 hours or more before the start: the student's hour returns to their package.
• Less than 8 hours before: the hour returns and the student gets 1 bonus hour, unless OTO staff record the cause as unavoidable, such as an outage. A student gets at most 2 of these bonus hours per level; after that the hour still returns without a bonus, and operations review the pattern.

What it means for you

• Under 8 hours' notice, unless the cause is recorded as unavoidable, the student's bonus hour is deducted from your pay at your own hourly rate for that class's tier.
• A cancellation beyond 2 per 8-hour course, or of a student's first session, is flagged for a points entry of 5 points. The platform doesn't block the cancellation.
• If you're salaried, the pay deduction applies as far as your contract provides.

Before a vacation

Time off can't cover booked classes, so cancel them first, as early as you can.

The support assistant can cancel a class for you: it asks for the reason, shows what will happen for the student, and nothing changes until you confirm.
