Taking the assessment comfortably
We want every associate to show their real level of English. Here is what the assessment needs, what we have done to make it easier to use, and how to ask for an accommodation.
Supported browsers and devices
- Browser: the latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Cohorts that use camera integrity checks require one of these two.
- Device: a laptop or desktop computer. Phones and tablets are not supported, because the test needs full screen, a keyboard for writing, and a steady view of the screen.
- Equipment: a microphone, speakers or headphones and, if your cohort uses integrity checks, a webcam. A stable internet connection and a quiet room.
A short device check before the test makes sure your audio, microphone and camera work.
How the site is designed
- It can be used with a keyboard, and the element in focus is clearly outlined.
- It follows your system's light or dark setting.
- If your system asks for reduced motion, animations are switched off.
- Text can be enlarged with your browser's zoom.
- Reports are designed to print clearly on A4 paper.
Accommodations on request
If a disability or health condition could affect how you take the test, for example your hearing, sight, speech, reading or movement, please tell your HR team before you start. They will contact OTO, and we will agree an arrangement with them. Depending on your needs, options can include:
- taking the test without the camera;
- leaving out Listening or Speaking, in which case the other skills share its weight and your result is marked provisional.
If a condition means you often look away from the screen or move your head, please let your HR team know. Camera signals are always reviewed by people, and they can take this into account.
