The OTO level scale
Every sub-level is one OTO course of 8 hoursA1 to C1 each split into four sub-levels, 20 in all. C2 sits above the course path.
How the level is decided
The test adapts as you go
Grammar and Vocabulary start at B1. Two correct answers in a row move up a level; two wrong in a row move down.
Reading and Listening come in sets of three questions, starting at B1. After each set, two or three correct move up a level; one or none move down.
Writing and Speaking: the second writing task and the longer speaking task are harder when the earlier sections average B1.3 or above.
The level is not a percentage. It is estimated from the difficulty of every question the associate actually answered, then reported as an OTO sub-level.
Six skills, weighted toward real use
Speaking and Writing count for 25% each, Listening and Reading 15% each, Grammar and Vocabulary 10% each. The report also names the limiting skill, the lowest of the six, because an overall level can hide a single weak spot. If a skill can't be tested, the other skills share its weight and the result is marked provisional.
Fair and timed
Every question has a time limit and every section a clock kept by our server, so everyone sits the same test under the same conditions.
Integrity you can review
Optional camera checks run on the associate's own device. Anything unusual is logged for your HR team to review. Nobody is failed automatically.
Certificates anyone can check
Each certificate carries an ID that anyone can check on our public verification page.
