Daily reading articles
A short English article every day at every level, from A1 to C2, with questions to check you understood. Open them from Daily reading in the menu: otocourses.app/en/app/articles
Anyone can read an article. Sign in to answer the questions, keep track of what you have read and use the tools below.
While you are signed in, an article opens inside your account, with your own menu, footer and the help button. A link someone shares with you opens the public page, and takes you into your account when you are signed in.
Find an article
- Your Home page suggests one article a day under Today's reading, with the article's picture behind it. It is always one you haven't read yet, at your level when we know it, and it is picked to match the interests and the goal in your profile; with nothing to match, it is the newest one at your level. It stays the same all day: when you finish it, it shows as done, and tomorrow brings a new one.
- Read every article at your level? The card says so; new ones arrive every few days, and the archive has the other levels.
- In the archive you can filter by level, search a topic or keyword, and sort by newest, easiest, hardest or most viewed.
Check your understanding
Under each article choose who you are practising with:
- On my own: answer the questions and press Check answers. You see which answers were right and why. You can try again; your best score is kept.
- With my teacher: you also get Discussion questions to talk through in class. There is no single right answer to these.
An article with no questions has a Mark as read button instead.
Key vocabulary
Each article lists its key words with their meanings. Press Hear pronunciation to hear a word, and Add to My words to keep it for review (see the article on My words).
Listen and read aloud
- Listen reads a paragraph aloud and highlights each word as it is spoken. You can pause, skip and change the speed.
- Read aloud & score records you reading a paragraph or a key word and gives you a score out of 100, with accuracy, fluency and completeness, and the sounds to work on. Your voice is sent to Microsoft's speech service to be scored and is not stored by OTO; only the score is kept.
Daily limits: up to 15 pronunciation checks a day, and a limit on new audio each day. Audio that has already been made still plays when you reach it.
A new article can appear before its pictures: they follow within about 15 minutes of being drawn.
The articles are written with AI for language practice. They are original learning content, not real news.
