Device and browser for the English Benchmark

For the OTO English Benchmark (the company test), you need:

• Device: a laptop or a desktop computer. Phones and tablets are not supported: the test needs full screen, a keyboard for writing and a steady view of the screen.
• Browser: the latest Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
• Equipment: a working microphone, speakers or headphones and, if your cohort uses integrity checks, a webcam.
• Time and place: about 85 minutes in a quiet room, in one sitting, or with breaks between sections if your employer allows it.
• Turn off writing assistants and grammar checkers, such as browser extensions, before you begin.

A short device check before the test makes sure your audio, microphone and camera work.

If something goes wrong

If your connection drops, reopen the test in the same browser to continue where you left off; the clock keeps running. The test runs on one device at a time: to switch, close it on the first one and wait two minutes. For anything else, contact your HR team.

The placement test for OTO Courses is lighter: it also works in Chrome on an Android phone.
